IConARD

International Conference on Agribusiness and Rural Development (IConARD) is an international event organized by the Department of Agribusiness, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Indonesia. This conference is designated to address various issues and studies related to the topic of agribusiness dan rural development. It consists of two main activities, namely plenary talk and parallel discussion. The plenary talk serves as a scientific forum enabling mutual information exchange and discussion among diverse stakeholder backgrounds and expertise regarding the latest yet globally happening issues in the agricultural sector. The parallel session is designated to facilitate the dissemination of valuable research progresses related to the selected scopes of studies. As the output of the conference, all papers are carefully reviewed by our highly selected scientific committees to ensure their qualification to be recommended for both international and national publications. Considering the previous IConARD events, this conference had gained great success in both years and been considered as a potential international event that also offered a promising output through the publication in a reputable proceeding.

THEME OF IConARD 2024

“Harmony in Nature: Bridging Environmental Science and Rural Development for Sustainable Futures”

In the journey towards progress, the fragile balance between humanity and nature often faces significant pressures, resulting in various environmental challenges. The concept of sustainable living emerges as a foundation of hope, urging efforts to reduce human dependence on natural resources at both individual and community levels. At its core, environmental science plays a pivotal role, allowing for a profound understanding of ecosystems, their processes, and the impact of human activities. However, the integration of agriculture within the context of rural development becomes a crucial element to achieve a broader harmony between human activities and nature.

Environmental science, as the cornerstone of sustainable living, cannot be separated from the strategic role of agriculture in rural sustainability. By comprehending the complex relationships within ecosystems, environmental science provides guidance for making informed decisions, ensuring the sustainability of agricultural and broader ecological environments. The integration of sustainable agriculture is key to ensuring that farming practices enrich the environment rather than degrade it, and that rural communities derive sustainable benefits from wise agricultural practices.

Sustainable and integrated agriculture aligned with the principles of sustainable living becomes a crucial solution in achieving harmony with nature. In the context of rural development, a holistic approach involving environmentally friendly agriculture not only supports food security and rural economies but also positively contributes to local and global ecosystems. This panel discussion aims to bring together thinkers, experts, and practitioners from various fields to explore concrete strategies in combining environmental science, rural development, and agriculture to create a sustainable future where humans, nature, and agriculture can coexist harmoniously. IConARD 2024 aspires to be a beacon of hope, bringing together experts, practitioners, and thought leaders to collaboratively explore concrete strategies, share insights, and chart a path towards sustainable futures where humans, nature, and agriculture coexist harmoniously.

Welcoming remarks

Dear participants, partners, and esteemed colleagues, I extend a warm and cordial welcome to the official website of the 5th International Conference on Agribusiness and Rural Development. Today marks the commencement of the much-anticipated conference that brings together minds from across the globe to delve into the intricate intersection of environmental science and rural development under the overarching theme, “Harmony in Nature: Bridging Environmental Science and Rural Development for Sustainable Futures”. As we embark on this intellectual journey, we are not merely convening to discuss theories and research findings; rather, we are here to collectively explore innovative solutions that harmonize the delicate balance between environmental conservation and rural progress. Through the convergence of environmental science and rural development, we aim to foster a harmonious relationship between nature and the communities it sustains.

Our conference serves as a nexus for minds that are committed to addressing the challenges at the intersection of agricultural practices, rural livelihoods, and environmental conservation. The diverse expertise and perspectives assembled in this conference promise a rich tapestry of discussions, debates, and collaborations that can pave the way for transformative outcomes. I am confident that our time together will be marked by intellectual exchange, collaborative insights, and the forging of connections that will endure long beyond the confines of this conference.
